Background

Competitive pinball has a serious, global scene. Thousands of ranked players compete in sanctioned tournaments tracked by the IFPA (International Flipper Pinball Association), with rankings, records, and rivalries that rival any niche sport. What it didn't have was the thing that makes other sports stickier for fans: a fantasy layer — the draft-a-team, talk-trash, follow-every-result experience that turns spectators into participants.

TAKGIO built Pinball Fantasy to fill that gap: a free fantasy-sports platform where fans assemble virtual teams of real competitive players and score points based on how those players actually finish at real tournaments. No money, no prizes — just bragging rights and a global leaderboard.

The Challenge

Fantasy sports live or die on two things: the quality of the projections, and the fairness of the economy built on top of them. Both are prediction problems.

  • Projecting finishes. To let fans draft intelligently, the platform has to estimate how each player is likely to finish at upcoming tournaments — from messy, uneven historical data and IFPA rankings, across players who compete at very different frequencies and levels.
  • Pricing players fairly. A draft-with-a-budget game is only fun if the player valuations are honest. Overprice the stars and nobody can build a competitive team; underprice them and the game has no strategy. The credit costs have to fall out of the projections, not a gut feel.
  • Keeping it strategic, not random. The scoring, budget, and captain mechanics all have to combine into a game where smart drafting is rewarded over the long run — without making the barrier to entry too high for casual fans.

Our Approach — the TAZ prediction model

At the core of Pinball Fantasy is the TAZ prediction model, TAKGIO's engine for projecting competitive pinball results. It ingests tournament history and IFPA ranking data and produces a projected finish for each player, which in turn drives that player's fantasy valuation.

From those projections we derive a tiered player pool — Stars, Mid-tier, and Value — and assign each player a credit cost. Fans can sort the pool by projection, cost, or IFPA ranking, so a newcomer and a hardcore stats follower can both build a team the way they think about the game. The model is the difference between a novelty and a game worth coming back to: the valuations have to feel right, and they do because they come from the data, not a hunch.

How It Works

  • Draft a roster. Pick five players plus a captain, staying under a 100-credit budget. The budget forces trade-offs — you can't just buy every star.
  • Captain scores double. Your captain pick is a lever for both upside and risk, adding a layer of strategy beyond raw roster construction.
  • Score on real results. Teams earn points based on each player's actual final finish at real tournaments. Entries lock when events begin.
  • Climb the leaderboard. A global leaderboard tracks every team, and crew-sharing lets fans challenge friends head-to-head.

What Makes It Different

Most "fantasy" novelties bolt a leaderboard onto arbitrary scoring. Pinball Fantasy is built the other way around — the prediction model comes first, and the game is designed to reward people who understand it. That's the same philosophy behind everything TAKGIO builds: start with the real problem (here, projecting outcomes from imperfect data), solve it properly, and let the product flow from that.

It's also a deliberate stretch beyond our document-heavy roots. The same modeling discipline that powers contract analysis and construction document intelligence applies just as well to projecting a tournament bracket — proof that TAKGIO's AI work isn't confined to one kind of problem.

Status

Pinball Fantasy is live and actively being built out, with the player pool, projections, and competition flow already in place and more on the way. It's TAKGIO's first product in the entertainment vertical — and the start of a broader expansion into interactive, fan-facing experiences.
